Saga of Hero (Crystal Saga) is a flash-based massively multiplayer online game where your existence is said to be a result of rebirth at the goddess’ cost and you devote yourself to the land of Vidalia in any possible form and dealing with all professions. The geological location of this land is not clear to low-level gamers. In later episodes of the game, you can see head-down rocks of Vidalia falling across shining stars in the universe. You take the role of one of the 5 races that specialize in totally different skills like magic, medicine, stealing, attack and long-distance defense.

It’s mainly PvE battle in the earlier 20 levels. I must say, little brain work is involved for PvE part. Just click a target when the target shows: click me to attack, and your sword will keep slaying with perfect accuracy until the target dies. What I mean by “accuracy”? I mean even when the target is closely besides your friend, you needn’t worry about his or her safety. What you must focus on is the point when a target dies. You are supposed to switch to another target immediately the health point bar of the previous victim disappears. Time is money. The killed may stand up alive and sound and make the stupid killing an endless repetition. You have to kill quicker than they revive until the number is reduced to zero.

In Saga of Hero, Online friends and their nicknames can be seen on the battlefield. If you ask for adding friend, they mostly grant the request. Although no mutual help is needed in the same battlefield and sometimes it’s interference for two gamers to aim at one target, the funny experience we share in the beginning battles does help start a relationship that would prove useful later. There is a comrade who happened to aim at the identical target as mine, time and again. Each time I turn to a new prey, he followed. How stupid we have been! In the game, Even the elite monster doesn’t take two of us nor a second skill to conquer. Fireball hasn’t proven any more powerful than the basic skill at all. So I needn’t bother to switch skill or combine them at the first 11 levels.

This grinding PvE is not for any specific group of gamers. Even the best gamer cannot skip this patience test. So I calm down myself to deal with the numerous vultures, scorpions, bears and wildplants. These NPCs are so well designed that I wanna rid the whole world of these creatures. Even the pretty flower (named dew wildplant) walks on legs in a manner no less disgusting than a scorpion. However, there are so many flowers reborn from soil and sand that I didn’t finish 1/5 of the task before a whole hour passed. During the hour I watched, aimed, clicked until I’m mummified. I am not playing the game but being played by the game. God save me! The notorious AFK system!

When I got to level 10, the system wink at me calling me to claim my pet, but the battle kept me caught therein and wouldn’t let me go. When my inventory is full and I can’t claim my bonus or collect pearls, diamonds and other delicious jewelries by a press upon space bar, the system shows “you cannot open a shop at this area”. How to open a shop? How to open a second inventory slot? How to speed up the PvE killing? This is where I stop and also the new starting line for me. Although the game capped “noob no longer” above my name, I still expect more compliments in the form of content help within the game.

Conclusion:

Saga of Hero is a nicely designed online game with a bunch of creative ideas executed, especially for its technical triumph. Most of non-download multiplayer online games are devoid of typical elements like 2D exploration, real-time fighting, and seamless data syncrynization, but Saga of Hero perfects all of them in web browser.
